OpenPrayer

Support

OpenPrayer is a quiet, private tracker for the five daily prayers and for fasting. Prayer times are calculated on your iPhone, a live compass finds the qibla, and your history, streaks and badges are kept on your device — no account, no ads, nothing uploaded. Below are answers to the most common questions. If yours isn't here, email me and I'll help.

Setup & prayer times

How do I set or change my location?

Open Settings › Location. You have three ways to set your place:

  • Use my location — asks iOS for your position once and calculates from it.
  • Search for a city by name (this is the app's only network request).
  • Type coordinates (latitude and longitude) in by hand.

Prayer times and the qibla update as soon as the location changes.

The prayer times look slightly off. How do I correct them?

Go to Settings › Prayer times. Small differences between apps and local mosques usually come down to calculation choices, all of which you can adjust:

  • Asr position — switch between Standard and Hanafi.
  • Fajr & Isha angles — turn on the override and set the twilight angles your local authority uses.
  • Per-prayer minute adjustments — nudge any prayer, sunrise included, a minute at a time to match your mosque's printed timetable.

Times are always computed on your device, so your adjustments apply everywhere in the app.

Tracking your prayers & fasts

How do I mark a prayer, or one I missed?

On the Today screen, tap ✓ On time or ◷ Late on a prayer card; tap the status again to clear it. For prayers you missed and prayed later, open History, tap the day, and mark them as made up (qada) from the picker of prayers you actually missed.

What are "excused days"?

Excused days let you mark days on which prayers are not owed — during menstruation, for example. Those days never count against you and never break a streak. It's a private flag stored only on your device; nothing about it is transmitted anywhere. Enable it under Settings › Modes.

How does travel mode work?

Tap the Travelling button in the Today header for the day. Dhuhr joins Asr and Maghrib joins Isha as combined cards, with shortened (qasr) intentions. It's a per-day choice, not a permanent setting, so you turn it on only for the days you're actually travelling.

What can I track for fasting?

OpenPrayer surfaces Ramadan, Mondays and Thursdays, the White Days, Arafah and Ashura — each appearing only on the days it falls on, and never on days when fasting is not permitted. You get suhoor and iftar countdowns, and a Ramadan tab that appears for the month. Missed Ramadan days can be made up later.

Your data

How do I export my data?

Open Settings and choose the export option. You can export everything as JSON or CSV; the file leaves only through the iOS share sheet, to wherever you choose to send it.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete any part of your history from within the app, and deleting the app removes all of its data. Because nothing is ever uploaded, there is nothing to delete anywhere else — no server, no account.

Do you collect any of my data?

No. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Everything stays on your device and the app works in aeroplane mode. The only network request it ever makes is the city search, and only when you tap Search. Full details are in the privacy policy.

Widgets & notifications

My widget isn't updating, or I can't add one.

Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets require iOS 17 or later. If a widget looks stale, open the app once to let it refresh — iOS limits how often widgets can update in the background. The large Home Screen widget also lets you tick a prayer off without opening the app; that tick lands in the app the next time you foreground it.

My prayer reminders aren't firing.

Check that notifications are allowed for OpenPrayer in the iOS Settings › Notifications list, and that the reminder toggles are on inside the app. Reminders are scheduled entirely on your device from your locally calculated times, so they'll keep working offline — but iOS won't deliver them if notification permission is off.

Is OpenPrayer available on Android?

This listing is for iPhone. For questions about other platforms, drop me a line at the address below.
